The Salem Early Childhood Center is growing students… and vegetables!

Thanks to its donors Home Depot, City of Salem Commission on Disabilities, and Mass Audubon, Principal Leanne Smith and all the ECC educators taught students to use ‘action’ words this week: plant, pick, pull, grow, cut, eat, give, collect.

The first weeks of school have brought the joy of learning to the ECC’s newest classroom — outdoors. The preschool/pre-K curriculum has stretched its first week’s essential question, ‘What is school like?’ to include where our cafeteria can get some of the food we eat at school. We look forward to seeing some of carrots, potatoes, herbs, tomatoes, snap peas and more on our lunch trays in the coming weeks.
